Laurie Shapiro is a mixed media artist whose work incorporates sewing, painting, textiles, and screen printing. Laurie has a BFA (2012) from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, PA with a concentration in painting, drawing, printmaking, and installation. While at CMU, she spent a semester at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.
Laurie’s work has been displayed and is in private collections in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East. After graduating from CMU, Shapiro was a resident artist at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA. Laurie lived in Oakland, CA from 2012 – 2017, for three of those years co-running a small boutique art shop and screen printing business. In the summer of 2016, Laurie left the business to focus on her studio practice. After completing a 3 month artist residency at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles in spring 2017, she moved to Los Angeles where she currently lives and works.
